Safe, Family-friendly Drive-in Movie at Campbell Sports Park June 13

"Abominable" will screen on Saturday, June 13 FREE at the Campbell Sports Complex, 8399 29th St W., Rock Island. 

The family-friendly animated feature will show as a Drive-in Movie in the Park, on Saturday.

Cars are invited to park 6 feet apart at 7:30 p.m. with the movie showing at 8:30 p.m.  Attendees are required to remain in their vehicles to watch the movie. Please arrive by 8:15 p.m.

"Abominable" tells the story of three teenagers who must help a Yeti return to his family while avoiding a wealthy man and a zoologist who want him for their own needs.

Disney and Pixar's Coco™: In Concert with QC Symphony Orchestra Jan. 18 at the Adler

The Oscar-winning animated hit will be shown on the big screen at The Adler Theatre/River Center while the Quad City Symphony Orchestra performs the energetic soundtrack live Saturday, January 18th at 2PM and 7:30PM! Coco tells the story of 12 year-old Miguel who travels to the land of the Dead, where he seeks the help of his deceased musician great-great-grandfather to return him to his family.  This family-friendly, live-to-picture concert event features Michael Giacchino’s beautiful musical score and the 2017 two-time Academy Award®-winning film for Best Original Song and Best Animated Feature Film.

The Adler Theatre/River Center is located 136 E 3rd St, Davenport, Iowa. Special pre-show activities include Day of the Dead face painting, vendors, and performances by the Glenview Middle School Mariachi Band at 1:00PM and Ballet Folklorico at 6:30PM.   

Mercado on 5th Vendors will sell art, retail items, and traditional Mexican foods including tamales, elote (Mexican street corn), and atole (a traditional drink enjoyed during Mexican holidays made of hot corn and masa typically served with tamales).

Oscar-nominated "Loving Vincent" Screens at Putnam November 3 and 4

"Loving Vincent" film synopsis: In a story depicted in oil painted animation, a young man comes to the last hometown of painter Vincent van Gogh to deliver the troubled artist's final letter and ends up investigating the artist's final days. 

Each of the film's 65,000 frames is an oil painting on canvas, using the same technique as Van Gogh, created by a team of over 100 painters.^[10] The film premiered at the 2017 Annecy International Animated Film Festival. It won Best Animated Feature Film Award at the 30th European Film Awards in Berlin and was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 90th Academy Awards.

"The Fantastic Mr. Fox" Burrows his Way into Modern Woodman Park

UPDATE (07.25.2010): This event has been CANCELLED due to flooding.  No alternate date is currently available.

As the title suggests, this movie is fantastic.  Frequent viewers of the latest computer animation films may be put off by the sometimes rough look of stop motion animation, but this isn't Gumby* folks.  It's visually stunning, entertaining, and smart.  Modern Woodman Park may be an odd place to see this film, but it's a good cause and will likely be a lot of fun.  Details in the press release below:

Trinity Regional Health System and the Rock Island Area Regional Council of Make-A-Wish will hold a family movie night fundraiser featuring the animated film "Fantastic Mr. Fox" on Sunday, July 25, at Modern Woodmen Park, Davenport. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. with the movie playing at 6 p.m. on the ballpark's big screen. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets to spread out on the outfield. Stadium seating also is available.

Based on the Roald Dahl children's novel, "Fantastic Mr. Fox" stars the voices of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, and Owen Wilson. The film was nominated for numerous accolades, including Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score at the 82nd Academy Awards. It was also nominated for Best Animated Feature Film at the 2010 Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards.

Advance tickets may be purchased for $4 per person or $12 for a family of four at any Trinity hospital campus cashier in Moline, Rock Island, or Bettendorf; The Grape Life in Davenport; or DMW Design, 5000 Tremont Ave., Davenport. Tickets purchased at the gate are $5 per person or $15 for a family of four.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich their lives with hope, strength and joy. Since 1985, the Foundation has granted more than 9,000 wishes in Illinois. According to event organizer Beth Darnell, the event's goal is to raise enough money to sponsor one wish, which averages $5,000 in cash costs.

"A child's illness can take its toll both physically and emotionally on the entire family," Darnell said. "Granting a wish to that family helps to ease that burden, if even for a little while."

The event is hosted by the Rock Island Area Regional Council, a group of local volunteers active in bringing the Make-A-Wish mission to the Illinois Quad Cities community, and presented by Trinity Regional Health System. Additional support is provided by Serv-A-Lite, East Moline Glass, Printing Unlimited, Quad-City Times, DMW Design, the River Cities Reader, The Rock Island Argus and the Moline Dispatch Publishing Company.

"The Little Mermaid" will Surface Today at the Davenport Public Library

Walt Disney's The Little Mermaid will make you weep, but not for the reason you may think.  It will remind you just how great 2D animation was (is).  Hopefully this artform will continue to thrive even as 3D computer generated features seem to be overshadowing everything else in the animation world.
