"Ioway" Film Wins Awards at the 2008 Cedar Rapids Film Festival

 

One of our favorite film events in Iowa is the annual Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival (CRIFF).  The hotel room photo above sort of typifies the usual pile of credentials and personal items that accumulate during a festival experience.

The festival is hosted by the Collins Road Theatres in Marion, Iowa.

Our film Lost Nation: The Ioway was in competition at the 2008 festival and won both Best Documentary and the Iowa Connection Award.

We look forward to attending the festival in 2009 and enjoying the work of other area filmmakers.

"Lost Nation: The Ioway" Wins Award at Cherokee Film Festival

Lost Nation: The Ioway has won the 2008 Best Multi-Cultural Documentary Award at the International Cherokee Film Festival in Tusla, Oklahoma.

As with our previous awards for this film, we are pleased to receive this recognition of the quality of our work and the acknowledgment of the importance of the story of the Ioway in America's past and present.

We offer our sincere thanks to the festival selection committee for including our film in this unique and important Native American film festival.

"Ioway" Native American History Film Wins Telly Award

Lost Nation: The Ioway has won a Bronze Telly Award for "Outstanding Achievement in a TV Documentary."

Ioway recounts the dramatic true story of the Native American people who gave the state of Iowa its name.  The Telly is the fourth award the film has received.

Rather than competing against other films, the Telly Award contest judges film entries against a high standard of quality.

As with the other awards, we accepted the Telly as a recognition of both our work and an acknowledgment of the important place held by the Ioway people in America's past and present.

We haven't received our statuette yet, but we are told they are, "hand made by the craftsman at RS Owens, the same firm that produces the Oscar and the Emmy Awards."  That means they're heavy.  : )

Ioway Documentary Wins Top Festival Award

Lost Nation: The Ioway has won the Best Documentary award at the 2008 Iowa Independent Film Festival in Mason City.  Ioway edged out heavy-hitter King Korn and several other excellent documentaries.

This win comes on the heals of a Best Documentary win at the 2008 Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival in early April and a second place finish among 40 contenders at the 2008 Beloit International Film Festival in January.

The Rundles accepted the award in Mason City as a recognition of their work, and as a recognition of the important place the Ioway people hold in America's past and present.

Ioway Native American Film Wins Top Documentary Award at Festival

Lost Nation: The Ioway has won the top award in the professional documentary category at the Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival.  Awards were presented on Saturday evening, April 5, 2008 following two days of screenings.  40 films competed for awards in several categories.

Ioway also received a special award as, "...the film that best represents Iowa and filmmaking in Iowa."
