In the 1979 classic thriller The China Syndrome, television news sound technician Hector Salas (Daniel Valdez) is run off the road by energy company thugs when he tries to deliver evidence of unsafe conditions at a Southern California nuclear plant to authorities. When his friends Kimberly Wells (Jane Fonda) and Richard Adams (Michael Douglas) hear the news, they learn it happened on Highway 6.
The film was directed by James Bridges (Urban Coyboy) also stars Jack Lemmon (The Odd Couple) and Wilford Brimley (Cocoon).
