Dave Darby and the U.S. Route 6 Tourist Association-Iowa launch the 1st River to River Iowa Motorcycle Cruise June 12-14, 2014. The cruise begins in Council Bluffs and finishing in Davenport at the Twentieth Anniversary Rally On The River event.
America’s longest and most historic highway, historic US 6, stretches 3,652 miles from Provincetown, MA to Long Beach CA. Iowa's portion of the route is the subject of Emmy-nominated filmmakers Kelly and Tammy Rundle's new documentary River to River: Iowa's Forgotten Highway 6. The film will be released in the spring of 2015.
"For out of towners, Council Bluffs has a bunch of activities happening on the 100 block of historic Broadway Avenue, including a Farmers Market, and drink specials at the ultra cool Barley’s Bar," says U.S. Route 6-Iowa's president Dave Darby, an avid advocate and preservationist for the histori highway.
"They’ll wave the checkered flag at 9 AM at the 100th block of Broadway Avenue, and we’ll take the original Broadway Ave/McPherson Ave alignment out of Council Bluffs, right through the scenic Loess Hills. Speaking of hills, US 6 on the west end of Iowa offers plenty of rolling hills and curves for their riding pleasure," said Darby. "We’ll check out Freedom Rock along with the Historic White Pole Road, which features Jesse James and Bonnie & Clyde robbery sites. Lunch will be available at various restaurants along the White Pole Road. From there, we roll through scenic Adel, Des Moines, Altoona, and Colfax before meeting up with Thunder Nites in Newton, where they typically have between 1500 to 2000 bikes on hand, and some rockin’ live music on the square from Insane Jane."
Saturday cruise will head east through the Amana Colonies with the Rally on the River in Davenport, Iowa the final destination.
