Putting the Hero Street Facts "On the Table"

Former Silvis, Illinois Mayor and Alderman Joe Terronez opened the door to his home on a recent Sunday afternoon and invited us inside.  On his kitchen table were several neatly-stacked folders and a large notebook filled with tidily filed clippings.

"This is just the tip," he said.  "There is much more to see.  I have the facts on the table."

We spent several hours visiting and pouring over his collection of archival materials related to Hero Street.   Joe has been at the forefront of efforts to memorialize the eight heroes for many years and the struggle is well-documented in his archival collection.

Visual materials are key to making an effective documentary film.  We are very grateful that Joe opened his door to us, and our project.

Preliminary Production Begins on "Hero Street" Documentary

Preliminary production on the new documentary Hero Street began on May 26, 2012.  Filmmakers Kelly and Tammy Rundle gathered footage of the annual Memorial Day Observance at Hero Street Memorial Park and at the Hero Street Monument.

A performance of patriotic songs by world-class tenor and retired opera singer Tonio DiPaolo set the tone for the service attended by nearly two-hundred who gathered to pay tribute to the eight fallen heroes, and men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Services.

The event was organized by Silvis Alderman Bob Cervantes, with presentations by Navy veteran Brian Munoz, one of nine of his Hero Street family members to serve in the armed forces; Sen. Mike Jacobs, D-East Moline; Brig. Gen. Kendall W. Penn, deputy commanding general of the First Army, stationed at Arsenal Island; and U.S. Rep. Bobby Schilling who said, “It’s truly an honor to be on this holy ground.”

Production and fundraising continue through 2012 and 2013.  Release of Hero Street is slated for 2014.
