Georgia Sandoval Herrera with her brother Tanilo at Hero Street Memorial Park during the Memorial Day Service in May 2021.
Today we mourn the loss of a beautiful soul. Georgia Sandoval Herrara was a determined advocate of her brothers Frank and Joe Sandoval, two of the eight heroes from Hero Street, USA in Silvis, Illinois who lost their lives in service to our country.
We were introduced to Georgia by Marc Wilson, author of "Hero Street, USA". Our friendship with her and her brother Tanilo developed over the years as a result of the documentary film series we are producing on the Hero Street eight of Silvis, Illinois.
A young Maya Chavez plays "Sis" in the Emmy-nominated Letters Home to Hero Street, co-produced by Fourth Wall Films and WQPT.
Georgia's first "appearance" in the film series is in Letters Home to Hero Street, the documentary film about her brother Frank Sandoval. Both of Georgia's brothers, Frank and Joe, referred to her and their sister Jennie as "Sis" in their letters home during WWII. In the documentary renactments, Georgia and Jennie were combined to create a composite "Sis", portrayed beautifully by young actress Maya Chavez.
Georgia is a key interview in Riding the Rails to Hero Street (part 1 in the series) and she will appear in the new episode An Infantryman from Hero Street, about her brother Joseph Sandoval. The film is slated for release near Memorial Day 2022.
Georgia gave to us her cherished memories, her stories, her true thoughts and feelings, her laughter, so many tears, and she became family to us.
To say we are grieving is an understatement. What we know for sure is how very fortunate we are that our life's path crossed with hers. We are better for it.
Rest in peace, sweet Georgia. Always on our minds. Always in our hearts. ~Tammy & Kelly Rundle, Fourth Wall Films.
