Synopsis
Letters Home to Hero Street focuses on a young Mexican-American veteran's personal view of World War II as told through the letters he sent home to his family in Silvis, Illinois. He becomes one of eight veterans of WWII and the Korean War killed in combat from the same block-and-a half long neighborhood now called Hero Street, USA.
Frank Sandoval was just beginning a new job at the Rock Island Arsenal when he was drafted in 1942. He sent hundreds of letters to family and friends during the two years he was in the service and the 130 letters that remain tell the story of one man's dramatic and epic journey from Illinois to India. Killed on the bank of the Irrawaddy River in Burma on June 1944, Frank was one of the first of the Hero Street Eight to fall in combat.
Letters Home to Hero Street features Eric Juarez, Maya Chavez, Cindy Ramos and Josh Wielenga.
The film is a co-production between Fourth Wall Films and WQPT-PBS.
Letters was produced by Lora Adams, produced and written by Tammy Rundle, and directed by Kelly Rundle.
The film was partially funded by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When will my DVD ship?
A: We ship within 48 hours of receiving your order.
Q: Is this the same "Hero Street" documentary film that you've been working on for two years?
A: No. We are hoping that this short film, partially funded by the Illinois Arts Council, will encourage interest in the story of the Hero Street Eight. We have struggled to raise funds to make the more comprehensive feature-length film, and we hope viewers of "Letters Home to Hero Street" will help us find the financial resources needed to complete the "Hero Street" documentary. Most of the funds raised for the larger project have come from outside the Quad Cities area.
Q: How did you choose which of the Hero Street Eight to feature in "Letters Home to Hero Street"?
A: Frank Sandoval was chosen because of the volume of letters available to tell his story in his own voice. The Sandoval family has about 130 of Frank's letters. In addition, other objects and artifacts that belonged to Frank and his family were available for use in the film.
NOTE: The film will also provide a veru brief overview of the Hero Street Eight story and ALL of the Second Street heroes will be acknowledged onscreen.

Q: Is "Letters Home to Hero Street" a documentary or docudrama?
A: It's a documentary because Frank Sandoval's story is told through his letters--his words. Although we employed reenactments with actors as an onscreen story-telling tool, no fictional story elements have been added. Docudramas are works of fiction based on a true story.
Q: May I pick up my pre-ordered DVD* at the premiere event in January?
A: Yes! If you placed the order ,and you provide identification, you may pick up your DVD(s) that night.
