Memorial Day weekend services are planned throughout the Quad Cities. But each year, it is the special memorials held on Hero Street, USA in Silvis, Illinois that draws diverse crowds of people of all ages to the short block-and-a-half street to honor the eight men who died during WWII and the Korean War, and the many who have served and made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Two services will be held on Hero Street, USA in Silvis, Illinois on Saturday, May 23, 2015.

The first will take place at 10 a.m. at the Hero Street Monument, on the corner of 1st Avenue and 2nd Street, Maj. Gen. Paul M. Benenati will speak. The Patriot Guard Riders will attend. First responders and winners of a student art contest will be honored.

The second service will take place at Hero Street Memorial Park, located in the middle of the 2nd Street block from noon to 1 p.m. Speakers include Brig. Gen. Kristin K. French, commanding general of the Joint Munitions Command at the Arsenal, and local veterans. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs.
On Memorial Day, May 25, 2015 WQAD-8 will broadcast the award-winning documentary by Fourth Wall Films and WQPT-PBS, Letters Home to Hero Street at 5:00 p.m.
