Recently we spent a very enjoyable morning with Ruben and Rufina Sandoval. They are brother and sister to Hero Street's Willie Sandoval. They shared memories of their brother and remembraces of their old 2nd Street, Silvis, Illinois neighborhood. The street was renamed Hero Street to honor Willie and seven other veterans who lost their lives in WWII and Korea.
This kind of participation and support from the families of the Hero Street Eight is essential to the success of the documentary film project. We are very grateful to Ruben and Rufina for their time, and we are looking forward to a winter-time visit with them to review additional family photographs.
