Filmmakers Visit Jean Seberg "Saint Joan" Premiere Site

Movie Star: The Secret Lives of Jean Seberg filmmakers Tammy Rundle (left) and Garry McGee pose in front of the Orpheum Theater in Marshalltown, Iowa.  The theater is undergoing a major renovation that will be complete later this year.

Marshalltown is actress Jean Seberg's hometown, and the Orpheum was the site of the U.S. premiere of her first film "Saint Joan" in 1957.

The theater opened its doors in 1949 and a display featuring memorabilia related to Jean Seberg will be part of the remodeled interior.

The Saint Joan poster above is part of a display in Marshalltown, Iowa High School's theater.  The photos and one-sheets (posters) commemorate Marshalltown's most famous resident: Jean Seberg.  Seberg was selected from over 18,000 applicants for the role by director Otto Preminger in a nation-wide talent search.  She was just 18.  Saint Joan was released in 1957 to mixed reviews.
