Mid-Century Modern Magazine Stand

My mother-in-law sold her little 1964 ranch home recently and gave away a few items that she didn't want in her new apartment.  Among them was this little magazine stand.  I know nothing about it, but I had a feeling it would look right at home in our living room.

And it does! : )

 

Painting our MidCentury Modern Livingroom

Our first move, after our move, was to do some interior painting.  Upon arrival, the color scheme in the livingroom and diningroom ran the gamet from A to B.

Three shades of brown from light to medium on everything from carpet to walls to stair railing.

Everything looked the same.  We opted to use two shades of green including two-toning the shelves to add visual interest to our low-cost home improvement project.

The sectional sofa came with the house, and the glass-top coffee table was "payment received" as a result of moving other furniture items to Santa Rosa for friends Jeff and Rita just before we left Los Angeles.  Without these found objects this room would still be largely empty!

Carpet Replaced in Mid-Century Illinois House

After buying  our Mid-Century Modern home sight-unseen, we expected a few surprises.  The sun-bleached carpet in the livingroom was the biggest surprise.

Our friends from Floorcrafters did the job in an afternoon.  One tricky spot for the installer was the seam that runs the entire length of the room near the fireplace.  Click on the images below for larger views.

Sure, I'm still dreaming of terrazo or wood floors someday, but even the dog seems pleased with the final result.  : )
