I See the Light - Mid-Century Modern Fixture

This is the view I have in my home office when I look up, as am wont to do from time to time, and ask the eternal question, "Why?"

It looks like it was etched by some sort of Spirograph-ic light saber.  The base is also brass, and slotted for flow-through ventilation.
