It almost seems like a dream. At the end of February 2007 we were living in Los Angeles, California, in an 880 square foot apartment on Centinela Boulevard. Our second floor bedroom and kitchen windows faced a noisy alley and at night we could sometimes hear the drive-through speaker at Jack in the Box restaurant at the corner of Washington Place. On March 5th we moved into the first home we have ever purchased in our 26 years of marriage: a Mid-Century Modern built in 1957...in Moline, Illinois.
The move back to the Midwest was meant to allow us to expand our independent film and video production business, to be closer to our families, and to stretch our house-buying dollar in ways that are only a dim memory in Southern California. We originally planned to purchase a home built between 1900 and 1940, and I had trouble finding information online about flat-roofed homes built in the 1950s. Owning this unique home is turning into a life-changing adventure, so we have decided to share our experience in this blog. Join us as we discover our home and others from this wonderful era. Welcome to MidWestern MidCentury!
