Winter Views

Yup, winter is here.  It's really beautiful...as long as you don't have to go anywhere. : )  Throw another log on the fire, it's going to be a long cold one.

 

Magic Hour in Moline

Photographers call the first and last hour of sunlight each day "Magic Hour" or "Golden Hour."  I would expand that to encompass the first and last TWO hours of the day.  The golden light adds a warm glow to outdoor photos.  I was intrigued by the way the light was falling on our house during a recent evening and snapped these photos.  Try photographing your house during this special time of day.

Midwestern Mid-Century in Deep Freeze

Yes, winter is officially here and we have the snow and ice to prove it.  It was a balmy 5 degrees this morning and the forecast promises more of the same.

I just finished putting an old tube TV in a wall on our lower level.  I know it sounds a little daffy...but please withhold judgement.  It's been a gradual process up until last Saturday.  I'm eager to share pics in my next post.

In the meantime, for those of you in warmer climes, here's another view of our frozen MCM home.

Submitted for your approval: a view from June 2008 of our split-level MCM.  Can you tell I've entered the Spingtime Zone?  The Octomom's kid's could each have their own side while swimming in our pool.

Mid-Century Modern House is Striking in Illinois Snow Scenes

 

These photos were actually taken in February 2008, but they serve as a reminder of things to come in 2009.

 

This particular storm produced first ice and then snow.  A lot of trees in the city were slightly damaged, but as ice storms go it wasn't too bad.

 

The red color of our old 1957 mid-century modern house really stands out under the white blanket of ice and snow.  If you're keeping score, I shoveled the driveway "old school" ten times last winter.

It can't get any worse than that...right?  : )
