A GoFundMe fundraising campaign is underway to support a very special journey for an Ioway woman. Sarita McGowan, a member of the Iowa Tribe of Kansas & Nebraska, will have the honor of representing her people July 11-27 during a special exhibition at The American Museum in Britain. The campaign has successfully raised over 3/4 of the goal, with just $170 left to raise: Sarita's Campaign.
The American Museum in Britain.
Several photographs of Sarita, along with other Native people, are part of an exhibit entitled "Spirit Hawk Eye". Sarita will take part in classes, workshops and exhibitions on traditional regalia, dance, the history of the Iowa Tribe, and contemporary culture at the museum, area schools, and in community groups.
Sarita will also have a chance to follow in the footsteps of a group of 14 Ioway who traveled to Europe in 1844 and took part in an exhibition of dance and ceremony, and presented gifts to royalty in England and France. Sarita will have the unique opportunity to see things that they saw, dance as they did, and visit the resting places of three of the Ioway that passed away during the trip and are buried in the foreign land.
Please consider helping with this amazing opportunity to represent the Ioway in Europe. If you feel called to do so, please donate what you feel led to contribute at Sarita's fund-raising campaign by clicking HERE. There is only $170 left to raise for this important journey. Thank you for considering being a part of this historic experience.
The American Museum is located at Claverton Manor, Claverton, Bath, Avon BA2 7BD, United Kingdom.
