There was a time when only one book on the Ioway American Indians was available to readers.
That situation has changed, and two new books by authors Lance Foster and Greg Olson should be on your 2009 Christmas list.
Lance Foster's The Indians of Iowa provides an overview of Native American tribes with a history in the state of Iowa, and Greg Olson's The Ioway in Missouri highlights the tribe's history in Missouri.
Both writers were featured in on-camera interviews in the award-winning historical documentary Lost Nation: The Ioway.
"The photography was stunning. I've never been to Iowa, but this film really showed the beauty of the state." --Mary, Ohio
"The most compelling moments are reflective, quiet scenes in which contemporary Ioway Tribe members mourn their ancestral past and contemplate their future." --Linda, Iowa
"Lost Nation has been made with intelligence and skill. The DVD is absolutely outstanding. Fittingly, the bonus features have been assembled with as much thought, care, and filmmaking savvy - and joy - as Lost Nation itself." --Mike, Iowa
"It should be required viewing for all students of American history." --Judith, Wisconsin
"I've seen the film at least six times and I still cry during the same scenes." --Sarah, Iowa
"My husband and I totally enjoyed the film, and the opening title music was absolutely beautiful." --Judy, Kansas
"Beautifully filmed...my students really enjoyed the dramatic elements you captured...exceptionally well-done...and needed." --Ryan, Iowa
"Several of my students commented that this was the first time they had seen Native Americans portrayed as people living today, not just as a part of our American history." --Donna, Iowa
"Buy your own copy today, and send another to a friend! : )" --The Filmmakers
